MSME players are required to have Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), especially MSMEs who want to expand their business wings. By registering intellectual property rights, you can provide protection for the intellectual property of MSME products, be it brands, patents, copyrights or industrial designs. Tokopedia's AVP of Risk Management, Bagas Dhanurendra, explained that intellectual property rights themselves are rights wealth that arises or is born due to human intellectual abilities. Intellectual works in the fields of science, art, literature or technology are born with sacrifices of energy, time and even money.
Therefore, according to him, it is important for MSMEs to have intellectual property rights. "It is very important for business actors to comply with regulations related to IPR so as not to experience product deletion, sales bans or shop moderation by Tokopedia," said Bagas in a press release, Wednesday (15/2/2023). He also revealed 5 tips for selling online on Tokopedia so as not to violate intellectual property rights. The first tip is to avoid selling fake or pirated products. He explained that business actors should ensure the authenticity of the products they sell because selling fake/pirated products is a form of violation of intellectual property rights. Business actors, especially IPR holders, can join the Tokopedia Brand Alliance Program to strengthen IPR protection on Tokopedia while fighting product counterfeiting. Through this program, he said, business actors can get a number of benefits, for example being able to review reports of product counterfeiting directly on a special dashboard, a faster timeframe for the process of removing counterfeit products, accessing special features for analyzing reports and engaging in constructive intellectual property rights discussions. .
The second tip is not to use photos or images from other brands without permission.
To avoid IPR violations, use original photos or images of the products being sold, or those that have permission from the copyright and brand owner. "Tokopedia also has an IPR Protection Team that monitors IPR violations to ensure products in circulation comply with IPR provisions," explained Bagas. Then, the third tip is not to use brands in product titles and descriptions without permission. This can increase trust and make buyers feel safe and comfortable shopping in business people's stores. Tokopedia also continues to review sellers, especially Official Stores, starting from account and product registration to avoid violations of intellectual property rights. Tokopedia also continues to strive to improve its ability to detect violations of intellectual property rights. The Tokopedia system will proactively block listings of infringing products as well as flag suspected cases for further investigation. Next, the fourth tip is to report if you find violations of intellectual property rights. According to Bagus, business actors, especially IPR holders, can report violations via the IPR Reporting Portal and review the status and response to the report. "At Tokopedia, almost 100 percent of IPR violation reports received have been successfully handled," added Bagas.
Meanwhile, the fifth tip is to become familiar with the regulations for protecting intellectual property rights. Bagas said, in order to carry out buying and selling activities safely without violating IPR, business actors can access the Seller Education Center to obtain information about IPR as well as the consequences of committing violations.
