Lebaran Gelap 2025: Beban Berubi-tubi, Jutaan Warga RI Tak Mampu Mudik - OSCARLIVING

Dark Lebaran 2025: Overwhelming Burden, Millions of Indonesian Citizens Unable to Return Home

'Idul Fitri or Lebaran for some people is a moment to return to their hometown to meet with family. However, this year's homecoming is expected to be less festive than in previous years.'

Eid al-Fitr in 2025 is predicted to fall on March 31/April 1, 2025, with the number of travelers not as massive as in previous years.

Based on the survey results conducted by the transportation policy agency, the statistics center, the Ministry of Transportation, and academics, the number of travelers is estimated to be only 146.48 million people or about 52% of the Indonesian population. This figure is down 24% compared to last year, which reached 193.6 million travelers.

"If last year the assumption of money circulation during Eid al-Fitr 2024 reached Rp 157.3 trillion, then the assumption of money circulation during the Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2025 is predicted to reach Rp 137.975 trillion," said the Deputy Chairman of Kadin Indonesia for Regional Autonomy Development Sarman Simanjorang, in a press statement on Tuesday (18/3/2025).

"Based on the last 10 years of data from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), it is projected that there will be a significant increase in the projected number of travelers."

In 2020 and 2021, the number of travelers experienced a drastic decline, even falling below two million people, as the government prohibited traveling during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the figure surged to 85.5 million in 2022 when the government allowed travel.

The number surged to 123.8 million in 2023 and 193.6 million in 2024. Surprisingly, the number of travelers decreased by 47.12 million people this year.

The decrease in the number of travelers is an anomaly because historically it has always experienced an increase.
