The name Bromo comes from the name of the main god in Hinduism, "Brahma".

The shape of Mount Bromo is interconnected between valleys and gorges with a caldera or sea of sand covering an area of about 10 square kilometers. It has a crater with a diameter of ± 800 meters (north-south) and ± 600 meters (east-west). Meanwhile, its danger zone is in the form of a circle with a radius of 4 km from the center of the Bromo crater.

For the residents around Mount Bromo, the "Tengger Tribe", Mount Bromo/Mount Brahma is believed to be a sacred mountain. Once a year, the "Tengger Tribe" holds a ceremony or Kasodo. This ceremony takes place at a temple located at the foot of Mount Bromo and continues to the summit of Bromo. The ceremony is held at midnight until dawn on the full moon around the 14th or 15th of the month of Kasodo (the tenth) according to the "Javanese Calendar" of the Javanese dating system.
