SWIM WITH SHARKS AT TAKABONARATE NATIONAL PARK

Taka Bonerate National Park is a marine park that has the third largest atoll area in the world after Kwajifein in the Marshall Islands and Suvadiva in the Maldives Islands. The total area of this atoll is 220,000 hectares with a coral reef spread of 500 km². This area is located in Takabonerate District, Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Since 2005, Taka Bonerate National Park has been nominated by UNESCO to become a World Heritage Site. In the Selayar Islands anniversary series, at this location every year a festival is held entitled Sail Taka Bonerate or previously called the Takabonerate Island Expedition (TIE).

There are fifteen islands in Taka Bonerate National Park so it is very good for diving, surface diving and other marine tourism. The topography of the area is very unique and interesting, where the atoll consists of a cluster of charred coral islands and a wide, submerged reef flat, forming quite a large number of islands. Between the coral islands, there are narrow straits that are deep and steep. Meanwhile, on the surface of the reef flat, there are many small, deep pools surrounded by coral reefs. At the lowest low tide, dry land is clearly visible and is interspersed with puddles of water that form small pools.

This area is called Bone Riattang , meaning the kingdom of Bone in the south or the sand dunes in the south. In the days of the Gowa kingdom it was called Bone Irate , meaning the kingdom of Gowa in the south or the sand dunes in the south. But there are also those who interpret Taka Bonerate as a stretch of coral on the sand (Molengraff 1929 ) in "Distribution and Development of Coral Reefs in Eastern Indonesia" calls Taka Bonerate a Tiger Atoll or Tiger Island. The names of the islands in Taka Bonerate have changed three times, namely the name given by Molengraff in 1929, the name on the Dishidros map, and the name currently applicable to the local community.

The name Tiger Islands has been given various interpretations of different meanings. The interpretation that is considered logical connects the name with the shape of the area and the location of the taka in it which resembles sharp and quite close tiger teeth. This implies a warning to humans, namely that anyone who wants to enter the area must first get to know the islands. If not, then it will be difficult for the person to get out because it is assumed that they are already in the tiger's mouth. The naming of the islands, taka-taka, gusung clan that form the Macan Islands is now called Taka Bonerate Area, not just a name but contains meaning related to the resources they contain and historical, socio-economic and social events. politics of past societies.

Takabonerate is an option that is well known to many people, not only within the country but also abroad. Takabonerate, located in the Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi Province, is a marine park that has the third largest coral atoll in the world after Kwajifein in the Marshal Islands and Suvadiva in the Maldives Islands. The area of the atoll is around 220,000 hectares with coral reefs spread flat over an area of 500 square kilometers.

In this national park you can swim and play with sharks on the shore. The #Jalanjalanbersamaoliv team has carried out an expedition to Bonarate National Park and conducted a survey of coral damage in the national park area.
