Kelimutu is believed to be the lake of the Spirits

Kelimutu National Park is one of the national parks in Indonesia which is located in Pemo Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency, Flores, NTT.

The charm of the beauty of Lake Kelimutu cannot be separated from the three-colored lake whose color can change and also the development of myths that have been believed by local residents. The change in color of the three lakes is caused by the composition of the minerals contained in the lake.

The three lakes are named Tiwu Ata Polo (red lake), Tiwu Nua Muri Koo Fai (blue lake) and Tiwu Ata Mbupu (white lake). The three lakes have an area of around 1,051,000 square meters, according to local residents' beliefs. the meaning corresponds to its name.

- Tiwi Ata Mbupu which is a white lake and is believed by local residents to be a gathering place for the souls of deceased parents. The area of this lake reaches 4.5 hectares.

- Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai is a blue lake and is believed by local residents to be a gathering place for young souls who have died. The area of this lake is around 5.5 hectares. When viewed from a height, the color of this lake is bluish moss green.

- Tiwu Ata Polo is a red lake and local residents believe that this lake is a gathering place for the souls of people who died and committed crimes while alive. The area of this lake is only around 4 hectares with a depth of 64 meters. The change in water color in the lake in the Kelimutu National Park area is the main attraction of this tourist destination. Local people also believe that there are certain myths behind the color change.

This three-colored lake also differentiates this lake from other volcanic craters in Indonesia. Quoting from several sources, this NTT tourist attraction area was previously discovered by a Dutch citizen, Lio Van Such Telen. This happened around 1915 and finally attracted foreign tourists to come.

The name Kelimutu consists of two words, namely 'Keli' and 'Mutu'. In the local language, Keli means mountain, while Mutu means boiling.

This lake not only offers the stunning beauty of its crater colors, but will also amaze anyone who witnesses the expanse of natural scenery in the Kelimutu mountains. Being surrounded by mountains makes this lake even more beautiful and comfortable to visit.
