What is it, the Ascension of Jesus Christ

The Ascension of Jesus Christ is the event when Jesus Christ was lifted up to heaven. This event of the ascension of Jesus Christ occurred 40 days after Easter. Therefore, the history of the Ascension of Jesus Christ is related to Easter. Quoted from the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers, the Ascension of Jesus Christ is a national holiday that falls on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

However, starting this year, the national holiday of Ascension Day of Jesus Christ has been renamed to the Ascension of Jesus Christ at the request of the Christian and Catholic communities in Indonesia. Usually, during this moment, Christians hold worship services in churches and gather with family. This moment can also be celebrated by remembering the history of the ascension of Jesus Christ and His love for humanity. So, what is the meaning of the ascension of Jesus Christ and how is it different from Easter?

The Ascension of Jesus Christ is the event of Jesus Christ's ascension to heaven on the 40th day after his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Summarized from the Britannica page, during the event of the Ascension, Jesus was taken up to heaven in the presence of his disciples. He then disappeared from their sight as a cloud hid him. This event of the Ascension is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible. The celebration of the Ascension in the Christian faith is on par with Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost. The commemoration of the Ascension has even been observed by Christians in both the East and West since the 4th century. Previously, the Ascension of Jesus Christ was commemorated as part of the celebration of the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

What is the difference between the Ascension of Jesus Christ and Easter? The Ascension of Jesus Christ is the ascension of Jesus Christ to heaven 40 days after Easter. Meanwhile, Easter is to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from His death on the third day after His crucifixion. On Easter day, it is celebrated to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from death and sin.

The Meaning of the Ascension of Jesus Christ The meaning of the Ascension of Jesus Christ for Christians comes from their belief in the glorification of Jesus after His death and resurrection. It also signifies the return of Jesus Christ to God the Father. Thus, the Gospel according to John uses the words of Jesus and His appearances after the Resurrection to illustrate the new relationship between Jesus and His Father, as well as between Him and His followers. Jesus revealed Himself to the disciples with many signs to prove that He is alive. Jesus repeatedly appeared and spoke to His disciples about the Kingdom of God. This is the explanation of what the Ascension of Isa Almasih is and how it differs from Easter.
