Financial market players must pay close attention to a number of global and domestic market sentiments in today's trading. The Wall Street crash, a new round of disputes over the Fed, and uncertainty surrounding global trade negotiations cast a shadow over the stock, rupiah, and bond markets today.
President Donald Trump on Monday (April 21, 2025) again increased his pressure on Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, calling him a "big loser" and warning that the US economy could slow down unless interest rates are lowered soon.
"A pre-emptive interest rate cut is being called for by many," Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.
Trump claimed that there is currently “almost no inflation” in the US, and that the cost of energy and “most other things” is falling.
"With these costs continuing to fall steadily—as I predicted—there will be virtually no inflation. However, there could be an economic slowdown unless Mr. Late, the big loser, lowers interest rates NOW," Trump wrote.
Domestically, sentiment will come from trade balance data and the Bank Indonesia (BI) Board of Governors Meeting.
Today, BI will begin the first day of the Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) and will end tomorrow, Wednesday, along with the interest rate decision.
For your information, last month, BI maintained its benchmark interest rate at 5.75%, the deposit facility interest rate at 5.00%, and the lending facility interest rate at 6.50%.
