Understanding of the Day of Pancasila's Sacredness

The Pancasila Sanctity Day is a commemoration held every October 1st as a form of respect for the heroes who fell in defending the integrity and glory of Pancasila.

Through this reminder, we are asked to reflect on the meaning of the sanctity of Pancasila and the importance of preserving and upholding the noble values contained within it.

History of the Pancasila Sacrality Day

The position of Pancasila as the foundation of the state has faced various challenges throughout its history. One of the events that significantly influenced the recognition and respect for Pancasila was the G30S PKI Tragedy. In this tragic event, six high-ranking officers and one middle-ranking officer of the Indonesian Army were killed in an attempted coup carried out by the PKI.

The G30S PKI tragedy is one of the dark chapters in the history of the Indonesian nation. This coup attempt aimed to overthrow President Sukarno's government and turn Indonesia into a communist state. This event also marked the PKI's effort to transform Pancasila into a communist ideology.

In this incident, several army officers and a number of other individuals became victims of murder, which is considered an attempt at a power grab. To this day, the G30S PKI event remains a topic of debate among academics regarding the perpetrators and the motives behind it.

To commemorate the event that nearly threatened the existence of the Indonesian nation's ideology, the New Order government established October 1 as Pancasila Sanctity Day through the Decree of the Minister/Commander of the Army dated September 17, 1966 (Decree 977/9/1966).
