Commemoration of the Birthday of Pancasila - June 1, 2024
Based on Presidential Decree Number 24 of 2016, June 1 is one of the important days in the calendar of the Indonesian nation. This date is commemorated as the Birth of Pancasila. The choice of June 1 as the Birth of Pancasila refers to the moment of the Dokuritsu Junbi Cosakai (Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Independence/BPUPKI) session in an effort to formulate the foundation of the Republic of Indonesia. This body held its first session on May 29, 1945. In that session, BPUPKI members discussed the foundations of an independent Indonesia.
In the second session of BPUPKI, Soekarno, in his speech titled "The Birth of Pancasila," had the opportunity to present his ideas regarding the initial concept of Pancasila, which became the foundation of the Indonesian state, precisely on June 1, 1945. This speech was initially delivered by Soekarno by acclamation without a title and was later referred to as "The Birth of Pancasila" by the former Chairman of BPUPKI, Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat, in the preface of a book containing the speech that was later published by BPUPKI.
In his speech, Soekarno conveyed his ideas and thoughts regarding the foundation of an independent Indonesia, which is named "Pancasila." Panca means five, while sila means principle or foundation. At that time, Bung Karno mentioned five foundations for the Indonesian state, namely the first sila "Nationalism," the second sila "Internationalism or Humanity," the third sila "Democracy," the fourth sila "Social Justice," and the fifth sila "The One and Only God."
"To perfect the formulation of Pancasila and create a Constitution based on those five principles, the Dokuritsu Junbi Cosakai formed a committee known as the Committee of Nine. It consisted of Ir. Soekarno, Mohammad Hatta, Abikoesno Tjokroseojoso, Agus Salim, Wahid Hasjim, Mohammad Yamin, Abdul Kahar Muzakir, Mr. AA Maramis, and Achmad Soebardjo."
"After going through several trial processes, Pancasila was finally ratified at the PPKI Session on August 18, 1945. At that session, it was agreed that Pancasila would be included in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution as the legitimate foundation of the Indonesian state."
That is a brief history of the Pancasila Birth Day that we need to remember. But it is not only to be remembered, the Pancasila Birth Day is also a moment to commemorate, honor, and appreciate the struggles of the nation's founders in formulating the foundation of the Indonesian state. We, as the next generation of the nation, must be able to interpret Pancasila as the foundation of the state and as a basis for behavior in social life.
"Pancasila as the foundation of the state, the ideology of the state, and the worldview of the nation, which was explored and established by the founders of the nation, is an unparalleled gift from God the Almighty for the Indonesian people."
Pancasila is a unifying tool for the nation. With the birth of these five principles, Pancasila can unite society with all the existing differences.
The practice of Pancasila values is a manifestation of love for the homeland, which can build a better nation and country. Pancasila values can be practiced in simple forms, such as mutual respect, cooperation, and honoring one another.
"Thanks to Pancasila with the values of inclusivity, tolerance, and mutual cooperation, the existing diversity becomes a blessing that guides diversity which can be woven into the national identity Unity in Diversity."
As a great nation, Indonesia needs to have a unifier under the wings of GARUDA. #GARUDADIDADAKU
